STEP 1: TOPIC SELECTION

What is your topic? Give a brief overview.

Dr. Josef Mengele and how his human experiments throughout the Holocaust were one of the biggest issues of that time even though it is kept quiet.

2. Give two reasons why you selected this topic.

The main reason I chose the topic was because it is not widely taught inside classrooms. Things like this are almost put on the back burner because so many people died in the Holocaust, some more brutally than others. I believe it is important to learn about tragedies that occurred and all of the hardships in order to appreciate the kind of society we live in today.

To what specific course(s) does your topic relate? Explain.

History- Learning about our past is important because to build a strong future, we must learn from our mistakes.

4. Determine whether the primary focus of the issue is cultural, resource, economic, environmental or political. Explain your decision.

The primary issue of this topic is definitely cultural. The fact that small children, especially twins could be subjected to such in-humane treatment is appalling.

5. Recreate the following chart on a separate piece of paper. Using the following “K-W-L Organizer”, recall what you already know about your topic, organize any new ideas, ask questions and record your learning.

K: What I Know about the Topic

W: What I want to Know about the Topic

L: What I have Learned about the Topic from Preliminary Reading / Courses Studied

Only about Mengele’s fascination with twins. I haven’t had the chance to research much yet.
How this was justified and more details about the brutal treatments.
I haven’t learned anything about this part of the holocaust, only about treatment of the jews.

5. Based on your prior knowledge and studies, what are three important themes or issues pertinent to this topic? Outline and explain.

1) Anti-Semitism

2) Human rights

3) Totalitarianism/ Dictatorship

Create TWO controversial questions about the topic that your thesis paper may answer.

1) The human experiments during the holocaust were a huge violation of Human Rights.

8. Using the “Evaluating Internet Resources Criteria” found at the following website: http://www.library.ubc.ca/home/evaluating/Easyprint.html find 3 resources on your topic on the web that fit the criteria of a valid Internet resource.
